Cyclone Fengal completes landfall

03 Dec 2024 / Puducherry

Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall on Saturday, 30th November 2024, has now weakened into a depression and continues to gradually disappear over the north coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Heavy rains continue to lash parts of the state and union territory, disrupting normal life and causing widespread flooding in Villupuram and Cuddalore. After making landfall near Puducherry two days earlier, Cyclone Fengal weakened on 1st December 2024, but the torrential downpour under its influence has paralysed the union territory. On Monday, 2nd December 2024, the depression (the remnant of Cyclone Fengal) over north coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry moved nearly westwards and weakened into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area at 5:30 a.m. over North Interior Tamil Nadu. The remnant low-pressure area is likely to emerge over the southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea off the north Kerala-Karnataka coasts around 3rd December 2024.
