Cyclone Dana to make landfall early Friday

Parts of West Bengal and Odisha have experienced heavy rainfall, strong winds and rough sea conditions as the region braces for the expected landfall of Cyclone Dana early on Friday (25 October).

The storm, currently over east-central Bay of Bengal, is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port in Odisha, with wind speeds reaching up to 120 km/h.

The cyclone will be accompanied by heavy rainfall in West Bengal and Odisha and is likely to have widespread severe impact to the coastal regions. Scattered heavy rain likely in north coastal Andhra Pradesh.

After landfall, it is expected to slightly recurve towards the west and west-south direction triggering heavy rainfall in South Odisha districts on 26 October.

A red alert has been issued for Odisha and West Bengal.

PORT UPDATES

DHAMRA/PARADIP/GOPALPUR: Vessel movements and cargo operations suspended until the storm has passed. All vessels shifted out to safe seas. Great Danger Signal No.10 hoisted.

HALDIA: Inward/out vessel movements at the docks suspended. Cargo operations on vessels at alongside berths continue.
