Cyclone Dana likely to become severe cyclonic storm

The well-defined low-pressure area has intensified into a depression over the east central Bay of Bengal on early today (22 October) and is on course to evolve into a severe cyclonic storm.

At 0830 hours local time, Cyclone Dana was centred near latitude 15.5° N and longitude 91.0°E, about 700 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 750 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal) and 730 km south-southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh). It is very likely to move west-north westwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm by tomorrow (23 October).

Forecasts indicate that the cyclone will bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to coastal and northern regions of Odisha. A red alert along with warnings of heavy rainfall, high winds and storm surges associated with the cyclone have been issued for coastal districts.

PARADIP:
Port operations continue normal. Vessels at anchorage advised to shift to safe sea by tomorrow evening.

DHAMRA:
Port operations remain normal. Vessels at anchorage advised to shift to safe sea.

HALDIA:
Port operations continue normal. Inward movements at oil jetties suspended for 23 October.
