Cyclone Dana completes landfall

25 Oct 2024 / Odisha, India

Odisha's coastal districts were battered as Cyclone Dana made landfall last night (24 October), with heavy rain and gusty winds causing destruction across the region and into parts of West Bengal.

Landfall began as the cyclone struck the land between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra, with wind speeds of 110-120 kph, and continued into the early hours of today (25 October).

The storm is now centred over northern coastal Odisha with a speed of 10 kph and has weakened into a cyclonic storm. The system is forecast to gradually weaken today and move deeper in the state, triggering heavy rains in most places. It is expected to continue moving northward and weaken into a deep depression within the next six hours.
