Cyclone Asna threat subsides

02 Sep 2024 / Gujarat, India

The remnant of Cyclone Asna over the northwest Arabian Sea has moved south-southwestwards and weakened into a depression.

At 0530 hours IST today (2 September), it was about 200 km southeast of Ras Al Hadd (Oman) and 410 km southeast of Muscat (Oman). It is likely to continue to move further south-south westwards and weaken gradually into a well-marked low pressure area.

Although Gujarat is out of the grip of the system, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert and predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for isolated areas. Squally winds with speeds reaching 40-50 km per hour gusting to 65 km per hour are likely to prevail in most parts until 5 September. Rough sea conditions will prevail over northwest adjoining west central Arabian Sea and would improve thereafter.
