Cyclone Alert Stage 4 declared

Port Hedland is now at Cyclone Alert Stage 4 – Shut Down. This stage involves clearing the port of vessels, the inbound anchorage remains closed and the port closed at 1800 LT today. The harbour master remains available for any emergency contact.

Port Walcott still Cyclone Alert Stage 3 - Clear Port. Barrow Island is at Monitor stage and Port Onslow is at Prepare stage. Whilst a direct impact may not occur for Port Walcott (as per current forecast track), the Shipper (Rio Tinto) has cancelled all berthings.

The ports of Dampier, Ashburton, Cape Preston West and Varanus Island remain at Stage 2 – Prepare.

Port Broome is now at Cyclone Alert Port Yellow. KPA is monitoring the development & movement of TC Zelia. Tropical Cyclone Zelia is expected move slowly to the south towards the East Pilbara coast. Based on the current advice for Broome:

- The strongest winds should reach 24-30 knots, with gusts of 35-42 knots

- Waves will likely increase to around 2.5m from Thursday afternoon (3.5-4.0m offshore) and through Friday

- BoM storm force wind warning remains active for West Kimberley Coast

The weather forecasts will continue to be monitored, and further advice will be issued within the next 24 hrs or earlier if there is a substantial change/escalation to the situation. At this stage, the port is expected to downgrade further on Thursday 13 February, whereby the ‘Port Clear’ status may be removed. This will be reassessed and communicated in due course.
