Cyclone Alert downgraded

22 Jan 2021 / Port Hedland, Australia

Port Hedland has downgraded its Cyclone Alert to Stage 1 – Monitor, as Tropical Low 08U is now considered to be unlikely to move towards the port.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, update at 0800LT today (22 January), Tropical Low 08U was located in position 18.1S 119.9E, and forecast to continue tracking South to SouthEast as it intensifies to a Category 1 cyclone before crossing the coast in the vicinity of 80 mile beach tomorrow (23 January). Due to the lack of intensification and its distinct southerly track, there is a very low probability of the system moving towards Port Hedland.

The area is still forecasted to experience swell and squally weather on Friday and early Saturday.
