Cross harbour swimming races and closure of landing steps

30 Oct 2023 / Hong Kong

Swimming races across the Central Harbour from Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island to Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon will take place from 0700 hours to 1100 hours on Sunday 12 November 2023. About 4,000 swimmers, under the escort of guard boats, are expected to participate in the races.

Launches of the Marine Department and Marine Police will be stationed or patrolling in the Central Harbour before and during the event.

Masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of all vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution and give a wide berth to the swimmers, and follow the directions given by officers on Marine Department and Marine Police launches regulating marine traffic in the vicinity.

As the marine traffic in the Central Harbour will be affected by the races, vessel operators are advised to adjust their sailing schedules in order to avoid obstructing the races.

To facilitate the event and its associated activities, the following landing steps will be temporarily closed:

(i) Tsim Sha Tsui Landing Step No. 2 – from 0900 hours on 9 November 2023 to 1700 hour on 13 November 2023;

(ii) Public Landings at the starting/finishing points – from 0900 hours on 11 November 2023 to 1300 hours on 12 November 2023;

(iii) Kowloon Public Pier No. 1 – from 0900 hours on 11 November 2023 to 1300 hour on 12 November 2023; and

(iv) Kowloon Public Piers No. 2 to 4 – from 0500 hours to 1200 hour on 12 November 2023.

During the aforementioned closure periods, owners and coxswains of vessels are advised to use other landing facilities in the vicinity.
