Convoys delayed

25 May 2023 / Suez Canal, Egypt

The normal vessel convoy of the Suez Canal was suspended at 0400 hours local time today (25 May) after a loaded 56,708 DWT bulk carrier stopped at KM 156 of the waterway.

The halted ship had joined as No.10 of 14 ships in the Northbound early group convoy which started to enter the Canal at 0200 hours.

Tugs freed the ship from grounding at about 0800 hours and towed it to exit from Suez port to clear the Canal for navigation. The waterway cleared and navigation for both south- and north-bound convoys resumed.

The normal Northbound convoy with 17 ships planned to enter the Canal at 0600 hours was delayed until approximately 0940 hours due to incident.

Normal Southbound Convoy, with 23 ships, was also delayed and is expected to enter the Canal at 0930 hours instead of the scheduled 0450 hours.
