Kiel Canal Authorities have announced the closure of the Big New North Lock in Brunsbuettel due to necessary maintenance works from 07.30 to 12.00 hours local time on 6 March.
Further, new regulations are in force to prevent the full shutdown of the Kiel Canal, which state that when only one New Big Lock is available at either in Brunsbüttel or Holtenau, vessels in Traffic Group 3 or higher must accept an assisting tug for mooring inside locks at the end where only one lock is operational, to prevent damage to the remaining working lockgates.
Traffic Group 3 main dimensions are up to:
- 120,00m LOA / 140,00m LOA
- 19,00m beam / 17,00 m beam
- 6,10m draft
