Berthing of vessels on fixed window basis

14 Sep 2023 / Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal, India

Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal (NSDTPL), JNPT, has announced that it will not accept dual declaration of vessels (at BPCL & NSDTPL) simultaneously, as this practice having a severe impact on the day-to-day planning of berthing vessels at the Shallow Water Berth (NSDT).

Since NSDTPL started handling operations at Shallow Water Berth on 26 May, nearly 17 tanker vessels having declared at both the Terminals by various shipping agencies, diverted these vessels from NSDTPL to BPCL at the last moment, leaving NSDTPL in a state of quandary thus leading to idling of berths including revenue loss.

NSDTPL will handle those tanker vessels only which will fit into our berthing plan without impacting our business including optimum utilisation of berths while the same being commercially viable in the long run under the existing contract.

Subsequent to takeover of Shallow Water Berth and Coastal Berth from JNPA, NSDTPL has been handling purely ad-hoc vessels carrying various commodities like liquid, steel, containers, etc. on a ‘First come, first serve’ basis. With increase in number of container vessels calling and in order to maintain their service integrity, it has been decided to handle WARM services operated by M/S Sea-Lead in a fixed berthing weekly window slot between Wednesday 0600 to Thursday 0600 each week.

Under the circumstances, bitumen vessels cannot be accommodated alongside SWB as they invariably require a longer period at berth, thus impacting berthing of vessels waiting in line.
