Annual shutdown of Department

Australia’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts will be closed between 23 December and 1 January inclusive, reopening for business on Tuesday 2 January 2024. No applications will be processed during the shutdown.

Under the legislated timeframes set out in the Coastal Trading (Revitalising Australian Shipping) Act 2012 (the Act) applications submitted by the following dates will be considered in 2023:
- New temporary licences submitted before 3:00pm AEDT Friday 1 December 2023;
- Variation to add new matters before 3:00pm AEDT Wednesday 13 December 2023;
- Variation to authorised matters no later than Wednesday 20 December 2023.

Applications submitted after the aforementioned dates, but before the following dates may be considered before the shutdown period but it is not guaranteed:
- New temporary licences submitted before 3:00pm AEDT Tuesday 19 December 2023;
- Variation to add new matters submitted before 3:00pm AEDT Tuesday 19 December 2023;
- Variation to authorised matters submitted before 11:00am AEDT Thursday 22 December 2023.

The above timeframes may be longer if a Notice in Response is received and/or if the Delegate requests further information in regards to an application.

In some circumstances, the Delegate may require the full consideration period to come to a decision. Applications submitted after these times will not be considered in 2023.
