Anchorage & outer harbour closed

08 May 2023 / Port Kembla, Australia

Port Kembla’s outer harbour was closed to shipping at 0900 hours local time today (8 May) due to high swell and strong wind. This follows the closure of the anchorage at 1500 hours yesterday (7 May).

The vessel at Berth 203 had to evacuate the berth and return to sea.

All vessels at the anchorage were instructed to return to sea, drift off port at a safe distance 12NM off the coast and monitor VHF radio channels 11 & 16.

The anchorage and outer harbour will not re-open until further notice.

The inner Harbour remains open but shipping will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
