Anchorage closed due to forecast severe weather

12 Jun 2024 / Port Kembla, Australia

Port Kembla anchorage is closed to shipping today (12 June), due to high swell and strong winds forecast over the next 48 hours.

All vessels should drift off port at a safe distance 12NM off the coast and monitor VHF radio channels 11 and 16.

A gale warning has been issued for the Illawarra coast with winds southeasterly reaching up to 40 knots. VTS, Pilots, and Harbour Master will assess over the coming days to ensure the safety of the port is maintained.

The port remains open to harbour movements and may face some disruption with pilotage during this period as shipping will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
