Amendments to surcharges

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has issued 11 circulars advising amendments to the new surcharges for ships’ normal transit dues which were applied from 15 March 2022. The new amendments will be applied from 1 May.

Crude Oil Tankers (Laden)
Northbound/Southbound
- Current surcharge 5%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 15%

Crude Oil Tankers (Ballast)
Northbound/Southbound
- Current surcharge 5%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 5%

Petroleum Products Tankers (Laden)
Northbound/Southbound
- Current surcharge 5%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 15%

Petroleum Products Tankers (Ballast)
Northbound/Southbound
- Current surcharge 5%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 5%

Dry Bulk Vessels (Laden/Ballast)
Northbound/Southbound
- Current surcharge 5%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 10%

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) (Laden/Ballast)
Northbound/Southbound
- Current surcharge 10%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 20%

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) (Laden/Ballast)
Northbound/Southbound
- Current surcharge 7%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 7%

Chemical Tankers & Other Liquid Bulk Tankers (Laden/Ballast)
Northbound/Southbound
- Current surcharge 10%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 20%

Containerships (Weather Deck Tiers)

- Currently: New surcharges for number of tiers on weather deck
- From 1 May: New surcharges for number of tiers on weather deck

G.Cargo Vessels, Multi-Purpose vessels, Heavy Lift Vessels, General Cargo/Heavy Lift Vessels, Multi-Purpose/Heavy Lift Vessels (Laden/Ballast)

- Current surcharge 7%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 14%

Roll-On Roll-Off RORO Vessels (Laden/Ballast)
Northbound/Southbound
- Current surcharge 7%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 14%

Vehicles Carriers (Laden/Ballast)
Northbound
- Current surcharge 7%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 14%

Special Floating Units (Laden/Ballast)
Northbound/Southbound
- Current surcharge 7%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 14%

Other Vessels (Laden/Ballast)
Northbound/Southbound
- Current surcharge 7%
- Surcharge from 1 May: 14%

The SCA stated that these surcharges are temporary and can be either amended or cancelled according to the maritime industry market conditions.
