Airports and ports on alert as global Mpox cases rise

23 Aug 2024 / India

India’s Central Government has directed airports, ports and border authorities to be vigilant in response to the global rise in Mpox cases.

Enhanced surveillance measures are now in place to ensure prompt detection and response.

To date, there have been no reported cases of Mpox in the country and the risk of a large outbreak with sustained transmission is considered to be low.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified Mpox as a public health emergency of international concern due to its prevalence in various parts of Africa. No travel advisories have been issued by the WHO at this time.
