01 Apr 2025 / Belgium

Following the general strike in Belgium yesterday (31 March), disruption to maritime traffic to and from the ports in Flanders is expected to persist in the coming days, despite the situation starting to normalise.

This morning, there were 122 vessels waiting:
- 49 vessels in Antwerp, waiting to leave the port
- 5 vessels in Zeebrugge, waiting to leave the port
- 11 vessels in Ghent, waiting to leave the port
- 57 in the North Sea, 57 vessels are waiting, of which 39 are destined for Antwerp, 14 for Zeebrugge, and 4 for North Sea Port.

There are currently no vessels navigating to or from the ports with a Dutch or Flemish pilot on board.

Shift changes for Vessel Traffic Services, the MRCC, and the Joint Nautical Authority proceeded as normal this morning. However, several pilots affiliated with ACOD continued their actions until 11:30.
