Additional security & safety measures at oil terminals

23 Oct 2024 / Libya

The Libyan Ministry of Transport Ports & Maritime Transport Authority has announced new measures for tankers arriving at oil terminals from Black Sea ports.

This comes after a tanker was found to have been subject to the attachment of sea mines present in the conflict zone in the Black Sea, which caused explosions in the engine room.

When any tanker arrives from Black Sea ports towards loading platforms in Libyan ports, before it can be approved, the following must be done:
1. Increase the security level to the second level on the ship.
2. Carefully inspect and ensure the validity of the tanker’s original certificates, its issuing authority and insurance documents.
3. Verify that they did not handle the shipment using the STS method, after review of the shipment documents.
4. Examine the vessel with care, especially under the hull.
