GAC Norway has launched a new shore excursion service covering all of Norway, including key cruise destinations such as Oslo, Kristiansand, Bergen, Ålesund and Tromsø, in response to cruise operators’ drive to provide passengers with authentic experiences that connect them with local culture responsibly. Cruise operators looking to enhance their guest experience with sustainable, exclusive and competitively-priced shore excursions can now partner with GAC Norway to deliver those experiences.
Well-established
This expansion builds on GAC Norway’s well-established support for the Nordic tourism sector, which already includes ship agency and husbandry services at Norwegian ports. By leveraging its logistics expertise, extensive market presence, and strong sustainability credentials, the company is uniquely positioned to meet the growing demand for high-quality, eco-conscious excursions.
Sustainability at the core
In recognition of the growing importance of sustainable tourism, GAC Norway is focusing on excursions with minimal environmental impact and optimum cultural engagement.
The company works with local businesses committed to eco-friendly practices, promotes low-impact travel solutions, and ensures that excursions contribute positively to the communities they visit. Further, efforts such as prioritising local suppliers, and careful planning to reduce carbon footprint and encourage responsible tourism behaviour are embedded in every aspect of the service.
Meeting market demand
The Norwegian cruise tourism sector currently attracts 5.5 million visitors annually. Such a significant tourist turnover, with sustained year-on-year growth, was an opportunity to prioritise sustainability and local culture through shore excursion services while maintaining affordability and high quality.
“Today’s discerning cruise guests seek more than just sightseeing – they want to engage with local traditions while being mindful of their environmental impact,” explains Alysha Pedersen, Project Lead and market analyst. “This aligns perfectly with our values and strategic focus.”
Building on proven success
Since 2015, Commercial Manager Cruise & Navy, Truls Andre V. Gabrielsen, has played a key role in developing GAC Norway's successful cruise ship agency. His extensive industry network and expertise will be instrumental in driving the shore excursion initiative forward.
“Expanding into shore excursions is a natural step for us,” says Truls. “By drawing on our extensive industry knowledge, strong partnerships and commitment to sustainability, we are confident in delivering exceptional experiences for cruise operators and their guests.”
Strong local partnerships
GAC Norway Shore Excursions is built on academic research, industry expertise and hands-on experience. After extensive travel to cruise destinations across Norway, the shore excursions team has forged strong partnerships with local service providers and guides to enhance authenticity and service quality.
“Working with local guides not only enriches the experience for guests – it also strengthens local economies and ensures our excursions reflect the true essence of Norwegian culture,” says Ahmet Øzsoy, GAC Norway’s Managing Director. “Sustainable tourism isn’t just about protecting the environment; it’s about supporting the communities we visit. That philosophy is at the heart of everything we do.”
Major destinations and experiences
GAC Norway Shore Excursions will launch in June 2025, offering a diverse range of activities in key cruise destinations. Each excursion is designed to deliver meaningful experiences while contributing positively to the places visited in the itinerary. Some of the excursion highlights are:
