Gothenburg, Sweden – Ian Williams and his GAC Pindar crew completed the opening event of the M32 Scandinavian Series 2017 in the top three at the weekend, despite a technicality resulting in them being narrowly beaten to overall second place.
Over three days with mixed conditions in Gothenburg, GAC Pindar battled against six other teams, racking up enough points to put them in second place on the overall leaderboard. However, one of the teams had to leave the final race and GAC Pindar was penalised, moving them down the board to be narrowly beaten to 2nd place by CHINAone Ningbo. The top spot on the leaderboard was taken by Wallen Racing, skippered by Danish sailor Jonas Warrer.
Six-times Match Racing World Champion Williams says: "Great racing in Gothenburg for the first stop on the Scandinavian Series. Of course, we are disappointed not to win after leading the regatta all the way through, but it was a strong event for us, and we'll be back in Norway even stronger!"
The next event in the M32 Scandinavian Series will be held in Risör, Norway between 27 and 29 June.
